Abstract [en]

This study investigates attitudes towards the English language and use among adult immigrants in Sweden. The present research aims to answer following questions: What do adult immigrants think about English? In which contexts do they use English? Why do they study English? 25 adult immigrants from two different schools in Sweden participated in the study. A questionnaire was conducted in order to answer the research questions. The results showed that adult immigrants, who participated in the study have mostly positive attitudes towards the English language, and they perceive English as a global language and the second language after Swedish in Sweden. Moreover, almost all the participants study the English language in order to achieve concrete goals like further education or better work.
