A total of 23 coins found in Gråborg from 1849 onwards and during excavations in 1998-2002 are listed and discussed. The oldest coin, 330s, is contemporary with the ring fort. The 15 early medieval coins show great similarities with the coin finds from Eketorp and Triberga and suggest continuous activity in the period ca 1175-1250. Later finds, up to 1592, can probably be connected with trading activities. Five coins covering the period c. 1400-1520 were found in the chapel. They illustrate the changes in coin circulation on Öland in this period. The absence of older coins is probably due to the fact that the areas in the chapel where coin finds usually are the richest were not excavated.
