Abstract [fr]

Abstract [en]

In the fall of 1897, in Sweden, Strindberg was publicly accused of having plagiarized Huysmans. This article strives to investigate the case by studying the biographical sources and the religious ideas expressed in the novels Inferno (1897), Legends (1898) and En Route (1895), and by recontextualizing both writers’ works in the fin de siècle mysticism period. Thanks to an intertextual approach, we examine different points where Strindberg and Huysmans meet, as far as their religious imaginary is concerned, namely, the notions of divine compassion and redemptive suffering.
