Abstract [en]

In this paper a conversation between a very proficient non-native Swedish user of Italian and a native Italian speaker is analyzed in order to determine the way the non-native makes use of discourse markers, both in term of quantity and variety. Moreover, the research focuses on various related phenomena, such as chains of discourse markers and, from a broader perspective, the strategies used by the Swedish speaker to avoid conflict and maintain a cooperative attitude towards her native counterpart.
