Abstract [en]

The paper presents textual problems relevant to the editing of Latin charters. A first part gives some general remarks about making editions of charter texts. The editorial approach is somewhat different from editions of literary texts. A selection of problems (taken from the series Diplomatarium Suecanum) and their solutions will be discussed. The paper shows how the editor will have tho choose between those variants that ought to regarded as pure writing errors, those that are due to the scribe's lack of knowledge of the formulary or the subject matter, and those that may have been part of the lost parchment original.
