Abstract [en]

This paper analyses in which way men are shown in the first season of the popular TV-series Sex and The City. The purpose is to find out which types of men that are being portrayed in the show and if there area any structural power positions within the relationships in the show.

The paper has it’s base in theories about male stereotypes and power structures and use these theories to disect every male character of every episode.

Analysing the collected data gave a result in which some male stereotypes from the real world are not represented at all in the show and some stereotypes are heavily over represented in the show. The men from all groups try to chase their dreams, have a successfull love life and career while trying to be accepted by the women in the show. Some men manage to break norms and still be accepted and some men don’t.
