Abstract [en]

The paper is a revision of the dates for the earliest coinages on Gotland and in the Baltic countries. On Gotland the coinage must have started c. 1150 (previously c. 1140). A coinage in Riga in 1211 is known from written sources, but it is suggested here that a coinage could have started already in the 1190s in a predecessor to Riga and later continued in Riga itself.
