Evidence for two likely cases of scientific misconduct in avian phylogenetics: fabrication of false phylogenies

Abstract [en]

Evidence is presented that [REDACTED] (2017, 2019) may be guilty of scientific misconduct by publishing phylogenies that are not based on existing data, but are fabricated to reflect (their) preconceived ideas about phylogenetic relationships. The phylogenies published by [REDACTED] give the impression that two mitogenomic sequences described in these papers and another one described by some of the same authors in a previous paper are authentic and correctly identified, whereas in reality these sequences are highly problematic (chimeras, misidentified sequences). The evidence indicates that these are not honest errors resulting from sloppiness, but rather that [REDACTED] acted to mislead the editors, referees and readers of their papers.
