The debate about textbooks has been an ongoing subject of interest for teachers and didactics researchers alike. While most of the literature has been focused on the usefulness of textbooks for teachers and their appropriateness for use in classrooms, what has been lacking is teacher voices on how textbooks are used and their advantages for students. This study therefore set out to interview a small number of teachers on their opinions and experiences with textbooks in order to see how well the literature matches up against the classroom situation in a Swedish context. When analysed, the interviews provide a small picture of a set of teachers who are very aware of the limitations and potential uses of textbooks. This leaves the door open for future research into the uses of textbooks and what aspects of them are still considered positive in the current climate.
