Abstract [en]

This first chapter introduces some basic facts about stochastic epidemic models.We consider the case of a closed community, i.e. without influx of new susceptibles or mortality. In particular, we assume that the size of the population is fixed, and that the individuals who recover from the illness are immune and do not become susceptible again.
