Abstract [en]

Understanding Bach is the web journal of Bach Network UK (BNUK), an academic research network founded by Reinhard Strohm, John Butt and Ruth Tatlow in 2004. Bach Network UK is based in Oxford, but has an international profile, facilitating the interaction and exchange of ideas between Bach scholars, performers, and colleagues in other disciplines. The web journal Understanding Bach is an aspiration of the twenty-first century. New experiences have resulted from the scientific revolutions of the twentieth century, its artistic movements and its critical theories and practices, and these are waiting to be measured against the Bach heritage. Understanding Bach is a freely accessible annual journal. Each issue contains an editorial, articles to which comments and criticisms are welcomed through a secure membership (free) Discussion Board.
