Abstract [en]

The Chinese pension system is currently undergoing reform, without any clear outcome at the moment. There hasn’t existed any all-covering pension system in China, and there are a lot of problems connected to the reform. China is a society going through rapid modernisation, where traditional values and beliefs might fall into oblivion. Xiaoshun, filial piety, is a very positively charged word in the Chinese language, and instead of being abandoned it is taking on a different shape; it is not quite the same as it once was. The concept of xiaoshun, filial piety, existed even before Confucius made it into a moral conduct. Owing to xiaoshun, the Chinese government might have been able to postpone the creation of an all-covering pension system.
