Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
The present thesis aims to view and to gain some insight of how to apply risk management at the prospect of strategic decisions in a firm. Businesses are always afflicted with some degree of uncertainty. Undertaking a business venture with a profit expectation gives at hand that threats and uncertainties of future events need considerable attention in how to anticipate and respond to them. The prospects are better profitability and benefits for all stakeholders if un-certainty and risk are managed systematically with a purpose of risk efficiency, that is, appro-priate and sufficient level of managing efforts being applied. By interviews with executives the practices of managing uncertainty and risk are explored. Interviews are held with execu-tive representatives from 13 companies within two industries. Further are perceptions of this particular management aspect investigated as well as what tools are used targeting uncertainty and risk issues but not necessarily, by custom, labelled as risk management.
