Microfinance is seen as a tool for reducing poverty through the development of a country’s private sector. The idea is to enable the poor to gain access to financial services such as savings and loans to start their own business. This paper examines various risks within the sector of microfinance. Seven institutes in the sector have been included in the research which has been conducted in Sri Lanka during the spring of 2005.
