Denna undersökning avser att belysa flickor som gjort könsbrytande val till gymnasiet. Antalet flickor som gör könsbrytande gymnasieval har ökat något de senaste åren. Enligt vägledningsteorin Social Cognitive Career Theory, SCCT, gör individer ”karriärval” utifrån sin subjektiva prestationsförmåga, den s.k.”self-efficacy”. Beroende av hur individen uppfattar sin egen förmåga och värderar sig själv, vidgas eller minskas handlingsutrymmet. Genom en enkätundersökning ville vi se om flickor som väljer byggprogrammet på gymnasiet har en stark självkänsla, ”self-efficacy” enligt SCCT. Studien omfattar 28 flickor som går på gymnasiets byggprogram i Stockholms län. Av resultaten i studien kan ett mönster ses av hög grad av självvärdering hos de flickor som gjort ett annorlunda val till gymnasiet. Av studien kan också utläsas att flickorna har haft ett starkt stöd från sina föräldrar i sitt otraditionella gymnasieval. Som studie- och yrkesvägledare är denna uppsats viktig för att öka förståelsen för de faktorer som kan påverka könsneutrala karriärval.

This survey intends to elucidate girls that have made gender-breaking choices to the upper secondary school. The number of such female students has slightly increased the last years. According to the guidance theory Social Cognitive Career Theory, SCCT, individuals make career choices according to their subjective performance ability, so called ”self-efficacy”. Depending on how the individual considers their own ability and evaluates themselves, the scope for action extends or decreases. Through a questionnaire survey, we wanted to see if girls who have choose the construction education in the upper secondary school have a strong self-esteem, “self-efficacy” according to SCCT. The study contends 28 girls in the upper secondary schools construction education in Stockholm County. The results show a pattern of high degree of self-efficacy among those girls that have made an unusual choice to the upper secondary school. The study also shows that the girls have had a strong support from their parents in their untraditional choice. This essay can be of importance to student counsellors in order to increase the understanding of factors that can influence gender-neutral career choices.
