Abstract [en]

Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att undersöka vilka etiska normer som finns i lärares resonemang om vardagens problemlösning och konflikthantering. Vidare syftar studien till att undersöka hur lärare resonerar om sin handlingsberedskap och sitt beslutsfattande samt vilka etiska normer de grundar sina beslut på. Vår datainsamling har skett genom ljudupptagning av halvstrukturerade intervjuer med fem lärare. Lärarna har dagen innan intervjutillfället fått ett fall med olika etiska dilemman som de ombetts att läsa och reflektera kring. Intervjuerna har utgått ifrån fallet, men lärarna har uppmuntrats att relatera till egna erfarenheter av etiskt svåra situationer i läraryrket. Transkriptionerna analyserades och kategoriserades varefter vi upptäckte mönster. I studien identifierar lärare etiska dilemman som svåra situationer att lösa. De uttrycker sällan bakomliggande orsaker till varför de uppfattar situationerna som svåra. I lärarnas resonemang går det att urskilja etiska normer som lärarna tar ställning till men de uttrycker sällan normerna eller dess bakomliggande värden explicit.

The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine which ethical norms there are in teachers’ discussions concerning solving of problems and handling of conflicts. Further on, the study aims to examine how teachers discuss their readiness to act and their decision-making, and which ethical values they use to support their decisions. Our accumulation of data was performed with semi structured interviews with five teachers. The day before the interviews, the teachers received a case containing several different dilemmas. The teachers were asked to read and reflect on the case. The interviews all started from the case, but the teachers were encouraged to relate to their own experiences in ethical conflicts in the teaching profession. The interviews were sound recorded transcripted and analysed. In our study, the teachers are identifying ethical dilemmas as difficult situations to solve. They seldom express the cause behind their understanding of the difficulties. One can discern ethical norms in the discussions that the teachers are taking a position on. But they seldom explicitly express norms or their supporting values.
