Abstract [en]

The main subject for this study may briefly be expressed as follows: Could possibly music and physical movement be used as alternative and additional means educational and professional guidance of children and young people with special needs e.g. due to problems like ADHD/DAMP? Consequently we have tried to study how these two means of assistance now are being used to guide such young clients and increase their possibilities to make a more qualified and well founded choice of further studies. Our research is mainly based on intensive interviews with guidance personnel active in elementary schools but also one teacher specialized on guiding pupils with an ADHD-diagnosis. Further on we made interviews with one therapist and one user of the so called Tomatis Method-a brain training method designed to help individuals to a distinguished and better handling of stimuli and sensual impressions. According to our results the Tomatis Method indeed improved the concentration and attention of the pupils-With effects clearly noticeable at least six months later. Our interviews with teachers specialized on guiding, revealed that they were quite positive to future test and use of music and physical movement as means in their work, although lack of economic resources might be in more expensive units and arrangements.
