Ungdomar idag står inför en mängd valalternativ. Syftet med studien var att få förståelse för hur ungdomar i ett individperspektiv hanterar och upplever sin beslutsprocess beträffande sitt gymnasieval. En kvalitativ metod användes och intervjuer genomfördes med åtta elever i år nio från en skola i en medelstor kommun. Resultatet visar att tanken på gymnasievalet initieras främst från personer i ungdomarnas närhet. De har periodvis tänkt väldigt intensivt på gymnasievalet. De flesta ungdomarna tycker själva att de har tillräcklig kunskap om sig själv och alternativen. Att ta beslutet upplevs som jobbigt för några, medan flertalet säger sig vara oberörda. Slutsatsen är att beslutsprocessen är en subjektiv upplevelse som skiljer sig kraftigt åt och hanteras väldigt olika av ungdomarna.

The purpose of the study was to reach understanding how youths in an individual perspective handles and experience their decision making process regarding the choice of upper secondary education. A qualitative method was chosen for the investigation and interviewees carried through with eight pupils in ninth grade from the same school and municipal. The result points out that the thoughts of the choice of education in upper secondary school initiates from people close to the youths. From time to time they have thought intensively about their choice of education. The majority of the youth think that they have enough knowledge about them self’s and the alternatives. To make the choice is hard work for some of them, while the majority states they are unaffected. The conclusion reached was that the decision making process is a subjective experience that diverge a lot and handles enormously different by the youths.
