The purpose of this study is to enlighten six teachers’ experience of gifted students in the earlier years of school. To get hold of this information we used literature and qualitative scientific methods involving interviews. The literature insight has been aimed to illustrate writer’s way of explaining the term “gifted”, the needs and challenges, as well as underachieving students and teacher’s way of teaching. Four teachers, one specialized educationalist and “extra-care-teacher” that all teach students at an early age, were interviewed with knowledge and experience from these kinds of children. On the basis from six interviews were analyzed.
The study revealed that many gifted students didn’t get as much stimulation and challenges as they needed; three of six teaches agreed that not all talent came to be discovered in the classroom. The study also revealed that the teachers were afraid of experimenting with alternative work procedures. But we experience, despite the lack of time and recourses, which the teachers are more than hopeful and willing to discover and challenge gifted students in means of alternative teaching methods so that every student leads one step forward.
