Gender and Migration Regimes in European Welfare States in Comparative Perspective
2009 (English)Conference paper (Other academic)
This paper focuses how gender regimes, migration regimes and welfare states shape the social rights of immigrants and thus their inclusion or exclusion. It initially discusses the regime concept and its application to welfare states, gender and migration. It then compares four dimensions of the German and Swedish migration regimes: 1) citizenship acquisition 2) the residence permit system 3) rules for family reunification and 4) participatory rights. The paper concludes with a discussion of the interplay between gender and migration regimes and welfare states in the two countries.
