Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to adress how social workers and their managers in child protection can bo supported to change a work situation resulting in high figures of sick leave and turn-over rates. A careful survey of the situation in seven municipalities in the Uppsala region of Sweden has resulted in the formulation of some indispensable qualities in work conditions: Reasonable staffing, access of an qualified organizer and stability in organization and routines. A competence program consisting of two phases of education and support is suggested. The first as an introductory period during approximatly two years and the second to enter deeply into child protection for three years to reach a position as specialized social worker in child protection.
