Abstract [en]

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (‘OIC’) is an international organization, but differs from other international organizations by basing its membership on a religious identity (→ International Organizations or Institutions, Membership). Its members are States predominantly from Asia and Africa. Its existence has been justified as a response to the need for solidarity between the Muslim populations of the Member States to achieve political and economic strength.
