Abstract [en]

In this occasional series we record the views and personal experience of people who have specially contributed to the evolution of ideas in the Journal's field of interest. Following 13 years as an MP in the Swedish parliament and some ministerial responsibility, Gabriel Romanus served for 17 years as head of the Swedish alcohol monopoly. His experience of the role that state monopolies can play in supporting overall alcohol policies is unrivalled.
