Abstract [sv]

Internationalisering och globalisering är begrepp som används flitigt i samhällsdebatten på både internationell, nationell och lokal nivå. I denna studie försöker jag tydliggöra innebörden av begreppen och dess koppling till skolan. Internationaliseringsprocesserna i skolan kan t.ex. handla om att väva in den internationella aspekten i kursplaneringen, integration i skolan mellan etniska grupper, studier utomlands, samarbetsprojekt, internationella utbyten och praktik utomlands. Jag har i denna studie valt att avgränsa arbetet till att gälla arbetsförlagt lärande s.k. Lärande i arbete (LIA) utomlands hos en grupp studerande vid en kvalificerad yrkesutbildning inom området resor och turism. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur en grupp studerande upplever en period av LIA utomlands. Med hjälp av halvstrukturerade intervjuer har jag försökt ta reda på hur de studerande upplever förberedelserna, genomförandet på plats och reflektioner efter hemkomst, samt även studera vilka variationer av upplevelserna som förekommer. Resultatet visar att det finns stora likheter men även skillnader i upplevelserna. En intressant aspekt som framkommer är t.ex. att samtliga upplever att man ”får en vardag utomlands” är av central betydelse för deras period utomlands. Det finns också en stor variation i hur man upplever förberedelserna, vad man efter hemkomst upplever att man får med sig i form av lärande och på vilket sätt man ser den egna verkligheten i ett globalt sammanhang.

Abstract [en]

The terms internationalization and globalization are used repeatedly in public debates about modern society at international, national and local levels. In this study I attempt to clarify these concepts and their relationships to education. The processes of internationalization in education may concern, for example, weaving aspects of internationalization into the curriculum when planning, integration in education among ethnic groups, studies abroad, and cooperation through projects, international exchange programs and work-based learning abroad. I have chosen to limit this investigation to the study of work-based learning, Lärande i arbete (LIA), abroad carried out by a number of students attending an Advanced Vocational Education Program within the field of Travel and Tourism. The purpose of this study is to investigate how students experience a period of work-based learning (LIA) abroad. Using semi-structured interviews, I have attempted to find out how students experience preparations, working at the destination and reflection on their return home, and also study the ways in which experiences vary during work-based learning. Results show that there are many similarities with regard to experiences but also differences. One interesting aspect that results show, for example, is that all students experience “having an everyday abroad” as being extremely important for their period of training abroad. There is also great variation in how students experience preparation, the type of learning acquired, and how individual students perceive their own reality in a global context
