De första renässansmuseerna i Rom och Florens
Stockholm University. (historiska institutionen)

Abstract [en]

The paper argues that the archaeological and antiquarian research by the Renaissance humanists in Rome inspired POpe Sixtus IV to donate a collection of ancient bronzes from the Lateran to the Capitol in 1471. This led to the start of the musealization of the Capitol which culminated in the forming of a historical museum at the Palazzo dei Conservatori during Paul III's pontificate in the 1530's.
