Abstract [en]

About the introduction and application of the phonetic Hanyu Pinyin romanization system, and about the new list of simplified characters presented in December 1977, the so-called Second Chinese Character Simplification Draft. Comparative examples of old and new characters are provided here along with corresponding Pinyin transcriptions and Swedish translations. — When this list was published and recommended in Chinese media, the People's Daily also held out the prospect of a future changeover to the Latin alphabet (Renmin Ribao, 20 December, 1977), thus taking up the cudgels for the transcription system at the same time.
