It is hard for young adults to get an apartment in Stockholm, especially in the central parts of the city. Some, who for some reason have the necessary means, buy apartments in the central parts and put them self to dept at a very young age. With this paper I wanted to explore the individual reasons behind this. Why do they feel it is worth spending so much money on a small apartment only to live in the central parts of Stockholm? The empirical part of the study is five interviews with young adults between 20 and 30 who bought their apartments in the part of Stockholm called Vasastan from 2005 and onwards. The theoretical parts of the essay discuss issues of place identity and the “perfect” city, focusing on earlier studies on the subject of matter. The study is done with a humanistic view of science in mind and with a hermeneutic view on the persons participating in the study. What the study shows is that even though the persons I interviewed all think it was worth the money living in Vasastan, the things that they appreciate with Vasastan such as its diversity is disappearing more and more.
