2012 (Swedish)In: Döden i medierna: Våld, tröst och fascination / [ed] Anja Hirdman, Stockholm: Carlsson Bokförlag, 2012, 110-133 p.Chapter in book (Other academic)
Abstract [sv]

Artikeln analyserar filmen The Passion of the Christ (2004) regisserad av Mel Gibson utifrån mediehistoriskt, populärkulturellt och "auteur"perspektiv. Analysen kommer fram till att filmen, som har ambitionen att vara så verklighetstrogen som möjligt i själva verket levandegör medeltida föreställningar om Jesu död och hyllar en lidande manskropp.

Abstract [en]

This essay analyses the Mel Gibson film The Passion of the Christ (2004) using the auteur-theory as a starting-point. The film pays hommage to the imagre of a suffering male body that is a recurrent theme in most of the films starring Mel Gibson. The ambition of the director has been to create as realistic a description as possible of the sufferning of Jesus Christ on the cross but instead, the film results in a well-masde copy of the Mediaeval depiction of the suffering of Christ.
