Abstract [en]

Car drivers are exposed to enhanced concentrarions of air contaminants when travelling in road tunnels. These concentrations may be much higher than during normal traffic and prolonged driving in tunnels can result in health risks.

Persons using the subway are exposed to such high concentratians of gases and partides that a more accurate investigation should be done. If the concentrations in general are of the same magnitude that is reported here, it is necessary to investigate the reasons (generation and spreading processes, etc) for this. It is also necessary to take appropriate measures to diminish the concentrations. It is not acceptable that people who chose to use the subway should be more exposed to contaminants than those who use cars.
