Abstract [en]

The aim of this essay is to understand how and why the PR industry uses social media, from a PRperspective. It also discusses PR strategies for social media and what practitioners feel about thefuture of social media in the PR industry. My hypothesis was that the PR work with social mediaisn't based on scientific reaserch. Through qualitative interviews with four PR professionals fromthree different PR agencies I discovered that social media is a rapidly expanding phenomena whichthe PR industry is too slow or perhaps not interested enough to adapt to. My respondents showeddifferent attitude and awareness towards social media, and there seems to be a need of additionaleducation in social media för PR practitioners.
