The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there was a contamination of lakewater from Kottlasjön to the outlet chamber associated with the surfacewater pond located in Brevik, Lidingö. Kottlasjön is considered important to protect because of the ecology, the surrounding nature reserve and also because the lake is a potential reserve freshwater source for Lidingö.To study this water samples were collected from the pond's water inlet chamber and outlet chamber and also from Kottlasjön. Water samples were analyzed and the results of the inlet- and outlet chamber were compared.
This comparison showed that a few elements had a diminished level. The remaining elements had increased levels in the outlet chamber. Analytical data from the water sample taken in the outlet chamber were also compared with water samples from Kottlasjön. This comparison showed that a number of elements had similar concentrations in both the outlet chamber and Kottlasjön.
There is now a strong suspicion that there is a contamination of lakewater from Kottlasjön in the outlet chamber. There were also signs that the soil bed in the pond and drainage system from the outlet chamber needs to be cleared.
