Drugs and Human Rights in Sweden: Security and Problems of European Integration
Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
This paper investigates how Sweden has reconciled drug policy with its human rights obligations. In applying securitization to Swedish drug policy, it finds Sweden is acting out of step with the international community on human rights issues relating to drug use. By utilizing securitization-theory in concert with Europeanization, it establishes Swedish securitization of drug use in terms of a misfit against Europe.
