Gentrifiering i Hjorthagen-Norra Djurgårdsstaden : En detaljerad studie över områdets förvandling och framtid (Swedish)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to explore the history and transformation of the former works and current residential area Hjorthagen in Stockholm with a classical gentrification perspective. I also examine the on-going brownfield redevelopment project Stockholm Royal Seaport, which partly surrounds Hjorthagen, with a new-build gentrification perspective. Through quantitative and qualitative methods and material I answer (1) how and why Hjorthagen has experienced gentrification, (2) if Stockholm Royal seaport can be characterised as new-build gentrification and finally (3) the pros and cons of gentrification are complied for the new area Hjorthagen-Stockholm Royal Seaport. Increased income levels, housing prices and loss of tenement housing etcetera confirm classical gentrification, further gentrification is confirmed by the existence of new-build gentrification. The study presents both positive and negative impacts for Hjorthagen-Stockholm Royal Seaport and the conclusion furthermore states that ones attitude towards the process at hand depends on which side of gentrification you stand.
