The aim of this article is to present an overview of the doctoral thesisReescrituras de la identidad: La representación de indígenas e ingleses en la novelaargentina de escenario fueguino (Rottenberg, 2008), to promote the diffusionof the insights presented there. The purpose of the thesis is to examine a corpus of novels taking placein Tierra del Fuego, with Indians and Britons as subjects, and to performa comparative analysis of the representation of identity, understood asdifference (Grimson, 2000) and shared experience (Grimson, 2003). Thestudy focuses, first, on the analysis of how the constitutive elements ofAmericanity (Quijano and Wallerstein, 1992) are rewritten in the novels,and, secondly, on the relationship between these rewritten elements andthe question of an Argentine identity as well as of the identity of the modernglobal subject.
