Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is that on the basis of news reports about Missing People Sweden investigate how the non-profit organization is exposed in Swedish newspapers in three high-profile news events that took place between April 2012 and May 2013. The study analyses how the individual organisation in relationship to other actors, like authorities and institutions, is constructed.

The essay is based on theories of media-logic, power, private and government initiatives. The analysis takes the support of the above-mentioned theories and compares the different newspapers presentation. The approach is qualitative and the method used is van Dijk's socio-cognitive approach to critical discourse analysis. The survey exhibits that media is part of the build-up of the positive media image of Missing People which has its explanation in the authorities and institutions insufficient management of these issues.
