Abstract [es]

Abstract [en]

The presence of native university teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) in South Korea is increasing nowadays and, even if their number seems merely anecdotic in comparison with native teachers of other foreign languages like English or Chinese, it is slowly increasing in number and importance, which is nothing but a response to a reality linked to the rising of university students who choose to study Spanish and the growing need to provide them with the appropriate linguistic tools. But why native Spanish teachers are hired in South Korea? What is their role at the university? How and where does the native teacher fit in such a scenario? And finally, does he meet the expectations? With this article, which is an extension of one of the authors’s MA dissertation, we have outlined the prototypical profile of the teacher of Spanish in the Korean university system.
