Abstract [en]

This research focuses on the BBC online coverage of Ukraine during several periods: before, duringand after Euromaidan events (2013-2014). Quantitative and qualitative content analysis were appliedin order to find out what frames prevail in the BBC online coverage of Ukraine. Existing stereotypesabout Ukraine were examined in order to track if they are reinforced in the coverage of the latestevents in Ukraine. The research has shown that Ukraine has a multiple identity that correlates with theseveral types of ethnicity: Western and Eastern Ukrainians. The most popular frames correlate with theexisting stereotypes about Ukraine: women as prostitutes, high level of corruption and illegal actionsof Ukrainian government. The research has shown that the Ukrainian identity in BBC online is built through the opposition to Russia.
