The concept of translanguaging has been in widespread usage in language education and linguistic circles for approximately 25 years. While some individuals may find translanguaging to be quite a natural way to interact, pedagogic support and language policies that promote the practice can help maximize its effectiveness, especially in the development of academic skills in plurilingual contexts. Interest in how translanguaging can help students maximize their linguistic repertoires and communicative competence continues to grow, evidenced by a recent conference titled ‘Translanguaging in the Individual, at School, and in Society’ held in Väjxö, Sweden in April 2019. As the conference theme implies, translanguaging can impact communication and interaction at several levels.
