    Abstract [en]

This study examines the introduction of Zola in Sweden, a question not fully elucidated by previous research. By a survey of the author's reception in the contemporary press, the study indicates that Zola is already making a breakthrough with the first translations of his work, notably L’Assommoir (1879) and Une page d'amour (1879). This is indicated by Zola's presence in the press and his status in the journalistic discourse. The reception is comparable to that in France, with strong criticisms of ethical, historical and aesthetic aspects, occasionally nuanced by appreciations of his qualities as a writer.
