    Abstract [en]

    The pragmatic functions of pitch at tone unit boundaries are studied in L2 Spanish spoken by Swedish learners, as compared to L1 Swedish and L1 Spanish. The data are recordings of a task in which the subjects - 10 learners of Spanish and 13 native controls - make a restaurant booking on the phone in Spanish, and the Swedish subjects also perform this task in their L1. The tone unit boundary rises and falls produced have been analyzed with special focus on rises and their accompanying vowel duration patterns. The turn-regulating functions of signaling turn-continuation vs. transition-relevance are contrasted with intersubjectivity-regulating signals, namely (non-) prompts for information and ( non-) prompts for interpersonal acceptance. Since open-ended yes/no-questions are signaled by rises in Spanish, though not in Swedish, and since declaratives carrying a positive politeness value tend to end in rises (the tail flick) in Swedish, though not in Spanish, various types of potential negative transfer could be predicted for Swedish learners' L2 Spanish. It is shown that L1 Spanish speakers consistently use moderate rises for turn-keeping and high rises for information-seeking, and that this pattern has no equivalence in the L2 Spanish data. Conversely, rises in L2 Spanish frequently occur where L1 Spanish speakers prefer falls. These rises, interpreted as tail flicks,also occur in L1 Swedish, but they are far more frequent in the L2 Spanish data. Thus, clear transfer patterns are found, which are further reinforced by - insecurity effects due to L2 speaking.

    Abstract [en]

    Festival Romanistica is an edited volume with 19 contributions written in four Romance languages: French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The volume represents the whole range of research areas in Romance Linguistics today at the University of Stockholm: semantics, syntax, pragmatics, discourse analysis, diachronic linguistics, translation studies and second language acquisition and use. Five of the articles are written by renowned scholars from five European universities. The authors of the remaining 14 contributions are doctors and supervisors belonging to the National Doctoral Program in Romance Languages (FoRom). By virtue of its wide scope and the high quality of its contributions, this volume is of interest for, and will find a natural audience among, researchers of all Romance Languages departments and divisions in Scandinavia, Europe and worldwide.'Festival Romanistica' is the first volume in Stockholm Studies in Romance Languages, which is a peer-reviewed series of monographs and edited volumes.

    Abstract [en]

    Nativelike expression in L2 speech is investigated by comparing quantity and distribution of different types of multiword structures (MWSs) in the speech of very advanced L2 speakers with native speakers. Swedish speakers of L2 English, L2 French and L2 Spanish (average LOR in the UK, France and Chile 7–10 years) performing two oral tasks, a role play, and an online retelling task, are compared with matching native speakers, totalling 140,000 words. The L2 groups were nativelike in their use of MWSs as social routines in the role play. Collocations, the dominant category in the retelling task, were underrepresented in all three L2 groups compared to the native groups. Furthermore, the English NNSs were nativelike on more measurements of MWSs than the French and Spanish NNSs.

    It is a well-known fact that multi-word units (MWUs), however pervasive they may be in language use, are difficult to define To date, no definition widely agreed upon exists and, seemingly, an even more complicated endeavor has been to agree upon which subcategories should be included for analysis.

    As Granger & Pacquot (2008) point out, largely two methodologies are being used in the study of MWUs. One is the phraseological method, where researchers use linguistic criteria regarding e.g. fixedness and exchangeability, with some intervention of researcher introspection and intersubjectivity.  Within this tradition, mainly idioms (‘grab the bull by its horns’) and collocations (‘draw a conclusion’) have been explored.  The other is the statistical method, where sequences are given the status of MWUs on the basis of purely statistical measures such as log likelihood and MI-score. Frequently, studies using these methods focus on lexical bundles (Biber et al. 2003, Ellis et al. 2008) and also on collocations (Durrant & Schmitt, 2009). In addition, proponents of this latter method tend to use very large corpora of written academic English, whereas the phraseological tradition is used on all sorts of corpora.

    The fact that these different methods thus target different MWUs   considering that a major challenge for linguistics today is to map to what extent language use is composed of ready-made chunks (cf. Erman & Warren 2000, Melčuk 1998). Accordingly, a methodology is called for that can account for MWUs from a more holistic perspective.

    In order to pinpoint methodological issues related to MWU identification in corpora, the present study will analyze data from English and Spanish spoken corpora and confront phraseological/introspective methods with statistical methods. The results show that the different methods arrive at essentially divergent sets of MWUs, and the consequences thereof will be discussed.

    Los fenómenos que en diversos estudios han sido tratados como indicios de “retroalimentación”,  de “respuestas mínimas” o de “comprobación” deben ser vistos como diferentes manifestaciones de un mecanismo dialogal fundamental, el cual denominamos gestión de la intersubjetividad dialógica (GID). En la conversación, este mecanismo  opera simultáneamente por diversos canales de expresión comunicativa. En el canal verbal, la GID depende del uso de marcadores discursivos con función reguladora de la interacción. En el canal vocal no verbal (canal prosódico), son generalmente los tonos terminales de grupos prosódicos los que asumen una función de GID. Por tercero, en lo que se refiere a los canales no vocales no verbales, la GID se implementa mediante la  mirada y los gestos. Hay buenos motivos para tratar los mencionados recursos, no como manifestaciones comunicativas aisladas e independientes las unas de las otras, sino en su función de conformar expresiones multimodales.  Por un lado, la señal verbal y la prosódica se imbrican para constituir señales vocales bimodales  (‘Ustedes ya se conocen no↑ –  Si ↑↓  claro). Por el otro lado, las señales de los canales no vocales forman secuencias que van paralelas a la señal bimodal y cuya función es, o corroborar a esta (opción no marcada), o bien contradecirla, compensarla, o sustituirla (opciones marcadas). En el diálogo, los movimientos multimodales de GI  acompañan las secuencias de expresión de contenido y llegan a constituir lo que podría llamarse un “diálogo dentro del diálogo”, cuya finalidad es establecer y confirmar un foco compartido entre los dialogantes tanto en el plano cognitivo como en el afectivo. El presente modelo de GI multimodal será ilustrado a través de una breve secuencia sacada de un diálogo, en español,  entre cuatro participantes involucrados en una negociación.

    El uso de partículas discursivas en el habla de los usuarios de segundas lenguas es un área de estudio hasta la fecha poco explorada.  Por un lado, el uso nativo de estas partículas suele seguir patrones muy elaborados. Por el otro lado, es hasta hoy día poco frecuente que en el aula de lenguas extranjeras se aplique una didáctica sistemática para enseñar estos usos, en comparación con p.ej. la morfología flexional.  Recientes estudios empíricos de carácter translingüística y contrastiva,  tales como  Aijmer y Simon-Vandenbergen (2006),  o Lauwers et al. (2010), muestran que las equivalencias funcionales de las partículas discursivas entre dos lenguas son poco obvias o transparentes, lo cual da una idea de la complejidad con que al respecto se enfrenta el aprendiente de una L2.

    Ha demostrado Hansen (1998) que las redes polisémicas de las partículas reflejan la evolución histórica  que estas han conocido a lo largo de una trayectoria de pragmaticalización, la cual se puede esquematizar como significado vericondicional → uso pragmático → uso metadiscursivo.  La pregunta de investigación que planteamos es en qué medida el desarrollo de un aprendiente de L2 se ve reflejado por tal esquema. En el presente estudio hemos estudiado el discurso oral en español  L2 de 10 informantes suecos, los cuales tras haber recibido una formación de E/LE en la enseñanza secundaria de Suecia residen desde hace varios años (de 5 a 15) en Chile. Sus producciones en tres tareas orales han sido estudiadas y comparadas con producciones hechas por el mismo número de hablantes nativos chilenos en las mismas tareas. Estas son: (1) una entrevista de autopresentación; (2) Jefe, un role-play en la cual el sujeto debe llamar a su supuesto jefe para pedir dos días de permiso; (3) Charlie, la re-narración de lo que sucede en una secuencia de 15 minutos sacada de la película ‘Tiempos Modernos’ de Charlie Chaplin. La base de datos correspondiente, que abarca tres  L2 (español, francés e ingles), ha sido utilizado en estudios recientes como Forsberg y Fant (2010), Fant, Forsberg y Olave (2011), Forsberg y Erman (2012) y Fant y Hancock (2013).

    Dos partículas discursivas constituyen  el objeto de nuestro análisis, vgr. entonces e igual-concesivo, en los usos en que se manifiestan en español chileno.  Abstracción hecha de conjunciones puras como pero o porque, estas dos partículas son las que más frecuentemente ocurren en el habla de uno y otro grupo. El análisis muestra que la trayectoria de la pragmaticalización, de hecho,  se refleja de manera menos nítida en el habla no nativa, dado el mayor uso de funciones básicas, y menor uso de funciones elaboradas, que el que se puede observar en el habla nativa.

Thiscontribution aims at presenting an overview of the field as well asgiving strong arguments in favor of both a judicious use of the L1 anda contrastive approach in foreign and second language teaching.     Partiendo del supuesto de que la modalización en el discurso constituye un conjunto de mecanismos semántico-pragmáticos, que tienen por efecto la matización de actos expresivos pertenecientes a diferentes planos de la descripción lingüística y relacionados con diversas necesidades comunicativas, se dedicará especial atención a dos clases de actos que a menudo coinciden: los autorregulativos, orientados hacia la formulación y reformulación de los enunciados, y los aproximativos que sirven para aflojar el grado de precisión de lo que ha sido, o va a ser, dicho. A esta última categoría hay que agregar su contrapartida, a saber, los actos que sirven para incrementar el grado de precisión de lo dicho. Se sustentará que las marcas verbales a través de las cuales inferimos tales sentidos constituyen recursos para modalizar el acierto formulativo de los enunciados, o parte de ellos. Con el término "/modalización del/ acierto formulativo" se hace referencia al grado en que el hablante desee señalar que sus elecciones verbales están en conformidad con los contenidos conceptuales a los que se propone dar expresión. El deseo de crear vaguedad respecto de un contenido - o, al contrario, de puntualizarlo - va motivado a su vez por varios factores, generalmente vinculados a mecanismos de gestión interrelacional.  Las marcas analizadas fueron encontradas en diálogos espontáneos representativos de diversos tipos de actividad, en particular la entrevista, la discusión en grupo y la conversación informal evaluativa. Siempre fueron recolectadas en contextos de actos categorizativos (a través de los cuales son atribuidas una identidad a personas, objetos y fenómenos) y/o argumentativos. Distintas variedades del español están representadas en los materiales, vgr español argentino, chileno, mexicano, peninsular y venezolano. Las marcas de acierto formulativo se dejan clasificar en una escala de seis posiciones, tres positivas (máximo/alto/algún grado de acierto) y tres negativas (mínimo grado de acierto/ bajo grado de acierto/ algún grado de no acierto). Otro parámetro relevante es su uni- o bidireccionalidad. Además, debe tomarse en cuenta la plurifuncionalidad de varias de las marcas, que consiste en asumir, entre otras funciones, la de modalizar otros aspectos de los enunciados, como p.ej. su grado de confiabilidad reivindicada.

    The last two decades have seen an increasing interestin what characterizes the left and right sentenceperipheries. This paper is the partial account of aresearch project at Stockholm University which aims atcomparing highly proficient Swedish users of L2 Frenchand Spanish with native speakers with regard to howthey structure the syntactic peripheries in naturalcolloquial speech. In the present context, however, onlySpanish and Swedish will be accounted for. Theanalysis contains two aspects: on the one hand, atypological study comparing native speakers of the twolanguages and, on the other hand, a study addressingthe question of the upper limits of L2 acquisition whilecomparing Spanish L1 and L2 speakers, the latterhaving Swedish as their L1.Results addressing the firstaspect show that native speakers of Spanish put moreweight on the left periphery than do native speakers ofSwedish, who, in turn, put considerably more weight onthe right periphery, thus showing a clear typologicaldifference. As regards the second, acquisitional aspect,the behaviour of the high-proficient L2 speakers closelyresembles that of the native speakers, with only a fewalbeit interesting exceptions. On the other hand, noclear instances of L1 transfer can be observed in theSpanish L2 productions.

    Two discursive processes constitute the focus of this study: intersubjectivity management and argumentation. Intersubjectivity management (ISM) is a newly coined term referring to a set of conversational phenomena, which are regarded as manifestations of a comprehensive process whereby common ground and mutual understanding are co-constituted in dialogue. This process takes place at the micro-level of dialogue and is implemented by means of signals which are usually backgrounded and, more often than not, multi-modal. Argumentation, in turn, constitutes a far more explored field of research. In the present framework, argument management (AM) is regarded as a process which is situated at the macro-level of dialogue and is an essential factor in the global organisation of dialogue.

              The aim of the present article is to shed light on ways in which ISM and AM are conjoined and used as tools for consensus establishment and conflict-solving within two related activity types, each situated in an institutional setting: business negotiations and problem-solving in university students’ workgroups. Both sets of data are based on video-recordings of multi-party dialogues carried out in two varieties of Spanish: peninsular Spanish in the business negotiation (elicited data) and Chilean Spanish in the students’ workgroup (naturally occurring data).

              The conjoined analysis of ISM and AM processes shows that AM moves become effective only when supported by appropriate ISM signalling. In particular, acceptance moves will lead to consensus only if they are combined with ISM devices which signal a high degree of common ground.

    The notion of modalization comprises the manifold manifestations of a mechanism which permeates practically every single communicative activity type, namely that of qualifying utterances in a strengthening or weakening direction with regard to different variables, and on different planes, of linguistic expression. Discourse modalization can thus be seen as an essential component in sense-construction. The phenomenon is analyzed from a dialogical stance and is studied as manifested in a variety of spoken communicative activity types (interviews, telephone calls with different purposes, study groups, informal conversation between friends). Three planes of modalization are distinguished: (1) the speaker’s assessment of credibility in utterances; (2) the assignment of degrees of intersubjectivity in interaction; (3) the speaker’s assessment of formulation accuracy. Through a basically onomasiological approach, the analysis shows that the linguistic devices used for modalization purposes are often multi-functional, even in the same situated context, and that they also possess an interpretation potential on the socio-pragmatic plane of dialogue.

    Basic conversational phenomena such as feed-back, back-channeling, minimal responses and uptakers deserve being treated as specific mechanisms of one and the same dialogic process, which will be termed intersubjectivity management, or the negotiation of shared understanding. This process is regulated by means of discourse markers, a category which should not be seen in its capacity of verbal signalling only; on the contrary, multimodality seems to the prevailing mode, and intonation plays a sometimes decisive part. In this study, intersubjectivity markers are viewed from the perspective of discourse modalization, where a scale of six modal degrees is claimed to be operative: three positive and three negative. The analysis is based on natural data from several Spanish-speaking regions and represents various spoken genres and activity types. A brief discussion will address the question to what extent and in which sense speech genre has a bearing on the usage of intersubjectivity markers.

    A comprehensive model of rapport and identity management based on various recent proposals for modifying mainstream (in particular Brown/Levinson-influenced politeness theory) is outlined and thereafter applied to spontaneous Spanish conversational data. Three basic assumptions underlie the suggested model, viz. the dialogistic approach to language structure and functions, the co-constitutive view of discourse and a means-end perspective on communication.

                          Identity is conceptualised, both dynamically and statically, as the outcome of a process in which membership and individuality are negotiated in and through interaction. It can be analysed into a set of components with a complex pattern of interdependencies. Membership (or collective identity) is understood to be the result of three kinds of sharing - that of codes, that of knowledge and that of concerns and topics - whereas individuality (or individual identity) is seen as the socially negotiated attribution of roles and properties to individuals. Identity is seen as intimately connected with the 'face' concept of Goffman(1967), and related to that of 'positive face' in the framework of Brown/Levinson (1987). Inspired by recent proposals by Spencer-Oatey (2000), face is subdivided into various components, each related to an aspect of collective or individual identity, viz. likeness, cooperativeness, excellence, role fulfilment and hierarchy. Face, understood in this sense, is considered to be distinct from various phenomena that have often been connected with the somewhat fuzzy idea of 'negative face', namely territory (or agenda), interpersonal 'equity', interpersonal 'indebtedness balance' and the weighting of interpersonal distance and proximity. Face needs are understood to be negotiated in dialogue as a prerequisite for being granted membership and individuality.

    In the suggested model, activities of rapport and identity management are categorised along three dimensions: strengthening vs. weakening action, target-directedness vs. target-avoidance, and self-directedness vs. other-directedness. Four basic areas of rapport and identity management are taken into consideration, viz. own-image management, other-image management, own-territory management and other-territory management. Examples taken from data consisting of four-party conversations in Spanish are presented in order to illustrate how a comprehensive rapport-and-identity-management analysis may be put into practice.

    El objetivo del presente trabajo es indagar en los mecanismos de alterización y creación de auto- y alo-estereotipos en escandinavos y latinoamericanos que se encuentran en una situación de cooperación profesional. Los materiales constan de entrevistas semi-dirigidas hechas a empleados autóctonos y escandinavos de algunas subsidiarias venezolanas y mexicanas de empresas que tienen su sede en un país escandinavo (Dinamarca o Suecia). El tema de la entrevistas era cómo los respondentes −latinoamericanos por un lado, escandinavos por el otro− veían a los del grupo opuesto dentro del marco de colaboración profesional.

    El análisis de los materiales realizado desde la perspectiva ideacional-textual arroja un alto grado de convergencia entre las auto-representaciones de un grupo y las alo-representaciones del grupo opuesto. Las valoraciones así surgidas presentan, sin embargo, una imagen desequilibrada: el sesgo constante a favor de la parte escandinava. Otro resultado de interés es que los mexicanos y venezolanos tienden a referirse a sí mismos como “latinos” (tendencia que comparten con los entrevistados escandinavos) y que no infrecuentemente asimilan la categoría de “escandinavos” a la de “europeos” en general, asimilación que nunca se da entre los respondentes daneses y suecos.

    El análisis de las entrevistas como instancias de interacción indica la existencia de un número de estrategias de defensa identitaria en los informantes: al ver amenazada la auto-imagen colectiva, el entrevistado tiende a compensar tal amenaza mediante la actualización,  sea de una auto-imagen positiva, sea de una alo-imagen negativa; se tiende también a convertir el signo negativo de una auto-categorización en signo positivo, o bien, tratándose de alo-categorizaciones, un signo positivo en negativo; finalmente surgen mecanismos de silenciamiento de la auto-representación, supuestamente con fines protectores de la imagen.

    The research question of this study is to what extent, and in which ways national stereotypes coincide, regardless of whether they are self- or other-stereotypes and regardless of what surface values, positive or negative, they are associated with. Questions are also raised regarding mechanisms of identity defence and the willingness among each group to see the in-group as a possible object of description.

          The analysis was carried out on three different types of data: (1) semi-structured interviews with Scandinavian and Latin American employees in subsidiaries of Scandinavian-owned companies; (2) comments made by Spanish negotiators who were confronted, in structured interview situations, with negotiation sequences on video-tapes in which groups of Scandinavians and groups of Spaniards had been recorded; (3) spontaneous multi-party conversations between Swedish and Spanish business administration students.

          In all three sets, it was found that certain ideas regarding both 'Hispanic' and 'Scandinavian' national characteristics recurred consistently regardless of the national belonging of the source, and that the content of these stereotypes coincided to a considerable extent across the data. A closer analysis shows that the stereotypes expressed are linked to the national identity of the informants in ways which, rather than reflecting the valuation of the various attributions in absolute terms, suggest the existence of a value scale along which different nationalities are systematically placed.

    High-proficient Swedish users of L2 French and Spanish were compared with native speakers of French, Spanish and Swedish with regard to how the syntactic peripheries in natural colloquial speech are structured. Two different though interrelated aspects were included: thus a cross-linguistic analysis comparing the three native speaker groups is combined with an analysis addressing the question of the upper limits of L2 acquisition. All left peripheral (LP) and right peripheral (RP) constituents of a corpus of 110,759 words were classified in a taxonomy relying both on syntactic and functional-pragmatic criteria. The cross-linguistic analysis showed that French and Spanish L1 speakers produced significantly longer LP sequences than the Swedish L1 speakers, who, in turn, put conspicuously more weight on the RP. Significant differences between the three languages were also found with regard to several LP and RP constituent categories. The L2 acquisition-oriented analysis showed that with few exceptions the high-proficient L2 users behaved like L1 users. Although a few interlanguage-related phenomena could be observed, no instances of any clear transfer from the speaker's L1 appeared in either L2 speaker group.

    Elicited conversations with participants engaged in a problematic negotiation with their boss were analyzed in groups of native speakers of British English, Chilean Spanish and Swedish, and in groups of Swedish speakers of L2 English and L2 Spanish (longtime residents in their host community and highly proficient in their L2). Two planes of comparison were involved: cross-culturally, addressing differences between the native groups, and, inter-culturally, addressing interaction between natives and non-natives. Results show considerable distance between the three L1 groups, especially regarding how power distance and social distance are managed both by the ‘employees’ and the ‘bosses’. As regards L2 speaker behavior, alignment with target community patterns largely prevails and few instances of L1 transfer occur. Communicative clashes are found to take place more often in the Swedish-Spanish encounters than in the Swedish-English ones, arguably due to the wider cultural distance between the Chilean and Swedish socio-cultures.

    In this study, a negotiation interaction is analysed in three groups of native speakers of British English, Chilean Spanish and Swedish and in two groups of Swedish speakers of L2 English and L2 Spanish. The participants were asked to perform a task as ‘employees’ who phone their ‘boss’ in order to ask for a two-day leave – an activity in which both argumentative and rapport management strategies are foregrounded. The non-native speakers were all long-time residents in their respective host communities (Britain and Chile), they were all highly proficient in their L2, and they could thus be expected to be highly integrated in and familiar with their corresponding socio-cultures. The study involves several planes of comparison and includes the following research questions: (1) What consistent differences can be found between the three native groups with regard to categories and distribution of argumentative and rapport management strategies? (2) To what extent do the English- and Spanish-speaking non-native speakers act like their corresponding native speaker groups? (3) Can transfer from ‘Swedish’ patterns be detected in the non-native speaker groups? (4) Are there any specific ‘L2 speaker characteristics’ to be found in the L2 productions? (5) Can alignment be found to take place more easily among the Swedish participants in one target environment than in the other? The principal aspects examined in the dialogues are the ways in which the ‘employees’ prepare the ground for their request, the extent to which emotional vs. factual arguments are used, and  the amount and nature of repair work occurring in the dialogues after an agreement has been reached by the parties.  Our results show considerable differences between the three L1 groups, especially as regards how power distance and social distance are managed both by ‘employees’ and ‘bosses’. As regards L2 speaker behavior, alignment with target community patterns largely prevails and few instances of L1 transfer do occur. Finally, communicative clashes are found to take place more often in the Swedish-Spanish encounters than in the Swedish-English ones, arguably due to a wider cultural distance between Chilean and Swedish socio-cultures.

    The degree of ultimate attainment in a second language is a much debated issue within the field of L2 acquisition and L2 use. Although late development in grammar and lexis has been the object of a fair amount of studies, the same does not hold for pragmatic competence, and particularly little attention has been paid to features of advanced socio-pragmatic or socio-cultural learning. This study compares the behavior of Swedes, who have lived in Chile for at least 5 years and who are highly proficient in their L2 Spanish, with that of native Chileans in a situation where the subjects are in an asymmetrical power relation with their interlocutor and have to deploy argumentative abilities. The analysis of the dialogues reveals that the pragmatic alignment of the non-natives to native patterns is far from complete. Divergences are found along two cultural dimensions: management of power distance and positioning with regard to displayed social distance.

    Seven groups with ten people in each participated in a simulated activity in which they played the part of employees asking their boss for two days of leave. Four groups were made up of native speakers of British English, Metropolitan French, Chilean Spanish, and Swedish, respectively; the remaining three groups being non-native speakers of British English, Metropolitan French, and Chilean Spanish, with Swedish as their L1, who were long-time residents of their respective host countries. The aim of the study was to investigate the patterns of impression management that emerged in the different participant groups. Two dimensions of comparison were in focus: one regarding intercultural differences between the native speaker groups, and the other concerning non-native speakers' alignment with local patterns of behavior. The analysis shows little variation among the three groups with regard to profession-oriented strategies, whereas divergences related to affective variables were considerably greater. The non-native speakers exhibited a generally high degree of alignment to local patterns in all three national contexts, although lower degrees of alignment appeared with regard to variables specifically reflecting common Swedish national self-images.

    Nous partons dans cette étude de la polysémie d’un certain nombre de marqueurs argumentatifs et évidentiels, récurrents en français et en espagnol parlé. Cette polysémie serait le résultat d’un développement diachronique (Hansen & Rossari 2005, Dostie & Pusch 2007). Nous nous penchons ici sur l'usage des marqueurs (comme donc, alors, après, vous savez, apparemment, c’est que...) dans le français et l’espagnol langue maternelle et langue seconde. La perspective est donc comparative et l’approche appliquée s’inspire de l’analyse conversationnelle.

    Nous faisons l’hypothèse que les items analysés, à mesure que la L2 chez l’apprenant s’est développée, sont de plus en plus pragmaticalisés. Par pragmaticalisation, nous entendons ici le changement sémantique et le développement des fonctions discursives/textuelles (qui s’éloignent du sens original) des items en français/espagnol L2. Dans la présente étude, nous considérerons aussi l’emplacement des items dans la structure informationnelle définie selon Morel & Danon-Boileau (1998). Selon ces auteurs, le français parlé obéit au principe de décondensation, à savoir qu'un certain nombre de constituants discursifs (thématiques et modaux) sont détachés de la construction verbale réalisée dans le rhème. L’hypothèse de la décondensation rejoint l’idée de la pragmaticalisation diachronique, dans ce sens que la pragmaticalisation des items vers des marqueurs discursifs entraine (entre autres) leur isolement syntaxique (Frank-Job 2006). Un changement sémantique des marqueurs serait par conséquent accompagné d’un détachement syntaxique. Dans cette étude, nous examinons, dans un corpus d’apprenants, l’hypothèse que certains marqueurs se trouvent détachés par rapport au rhème (à gauche ou à droite), suivant le degré de pragmaticalisation du marqueur.

    Notre corpus consiste d’enregistrements téléphoniques d’une activité argumentative. Les enregistrements comprennent la production de 40 informants au total, 20 en français (L1 et L2) et de 20 informants en espagnol (L1 et L2).
