    In the early 2000, increasingly more institutions regard their activities as pedagogical or educationaL The libraries, the museum, correction care and public health, to mention a few of these institutions, all of them tend to rely on the "pedagogical paradigm" when reasoning about their activities. Thus we seem to live in a society where increasingly more phenomena become codified as educational. This trend towards a society as school creates a broad surjdcefor the inscriptions of pedagogy and pedagogical technology. The purpose of this study is making a history of ihe present analysis of the emergence of to use a loose term the pedagogical paradigm. To highlight this change we have chosen four institutioal fields: The teacher's education, the people´s library, people´s health and correction care. The empirical sources are historical texts from the period I8OOs -2OOOs.

    Abstract [en]

    Objective: To evaluate the impact of demographic and psychosocial background factors and psychiatric and functional status before and at admission on the patients' satisfaction with care (PSC) among, first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients. Method: One year after entering the Parachute Project, 134 FEP patients completed a patient satisfaction questionnaire. Results Twenty-nine per cent of the variance of PSC was explained by factors such as educational level, social network, duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) and Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) the year prior to onset. Conclusion: Affecting the public knowledge in psychiatric problems and psychiatric treatment, together with early intervention strategies aiming to decrease the prodromal and DUP period among FEP patients, can positively influence the pa:ients' experience of given care. By increasing the cnowledge of available psychiatric treatment, the sense of powerlessness might decrease among the affected persons, and the possibility of early help seeking might increase.

    Folkuppfostran och hälsoupplysning har en lång tradiion i det svenska samhället. Myndigheterna har sedan mitten av 1700-talet intresserat sig för i vilken utsträckning som den svenska befolkningen har levt ett sa hälsosamt liv som möjligt, till gagn för de samhällsprojekt som formulerats under olika tider. Intresset har varit särskilt starkt under de perioder då samhället anses ha varit i kris. Här diskuteras de drömmar om den upplysta och hälsosamma medborgaren som har följt folkhemmets framväxt, utveckling och omstrukturering. Boken börjar i 1930-talets oro att det låga födelsetalet skulle hota landets framtida utveckling. Den slutar i 1990-talets diskussioner om I enskildes rätt att fa del av samhällets krympande sjukvårdsresurser.

    Det material som analyseras är statliga utredningar som legat till grund for hälso- och sjukvårdens framväxt och övergripande inriktning. Ett genomgående tema är välfärdsstatens manipulerande och frigörande mekanismer. En central fråga är om nutidens framställning av de som röker kan sägas fylla samma funktion som föreställningarna om rasbiologiskt undermåliga individer gjorde i 1930-talets framtidsvisioner.

    This dissertation focuses on educational dimensions of public health as they appear in the texts of govemmental committees on Public Health (SOU) from the middle of 1930's to the middle of 1990's. By educational dimensions is meant intention to influence peoples attiudes and behaviours.

    The aim is to describe, analyse and compare discourses on health education as they appear in the texts. The method used is an application of poststructural text analysis based on eopragmatism and the work of Michel Foucault. Among the Foucauldian concepts used are discourse, govemmentality, power and subjectification. In the final chapter possibilities and imitations of Foucauldian analysis, in the light of a neopragmatic philosophy, are discussed. Three different discourses of health education are identified. One crucial difference concerns how relationships between individuals, state and society appear in the texts. A discourse of passive presence (in 1930's) deals with conditions and lifestyle of Swedes, but the subject constructed in the texts is essentially a passive receiver of health information antänd social eforms. A further discourse of passive absence tends not to problematize people's lifestyle and health habits at all. Towards the end of the 1970's a discourse of active presence appears in the texts. By the concept of presence is meant that people's lifestyle, health habits and living conditions once again become present in the texts. The concept active bears on the discoursive construction of a self-goveming and autonomous subject.

    I fokus för detta arbete står friskvård inom arbetslivet som pedagogisk praktik med hälsoprofilsbedömning, en metod för undersökning och påverkan av människors hälsostatus och hälsovanor, som konkret exempel. En bakgrund till detta är framväxten av insatser för folkhälsa och den ökade betoning av friskvård inom arbetslivet som skett inom såväl privat som offentlig sektor. Friskvård handlar om människors levnadsvanor när det gäller kost, motion, stress, alkohol, tobak m.m.

    Hälsoprofilsbedömning och friskvårdspedagogik inom arbetslivet ses här ur två olika perspektiv. Ur det ena perspektivet behandlas verksamheten på dess egna villkor - som en metod att inom ramen för arbetslivet få till stånd ner hälsosamma livsstilar genom kontrakt mellan självständiga parter. Det andra perspektivet kan ses som kritiskt granskande. Här ifrågasätts premissema för hälsoprofilsbedömningen utifrån begrepp som makt och disciplinering. En inspirationskälla har därvid bland annat Michel Foucaults arbeten varit. Som empiriskt material för analysen används två avhandlingar som presenterar hälsoprofilbedömningen som metod.

    Ur dessa båda perspektiv erhålles två olika betraktelser om hälsoprofilsbedömning och friskvårdspedagogik inom arbetslivet - en rättvis och en orättvis. På basis av en kritisk pragmatisk ansats diskuteras möjligheten till ett samtal baserad på relationen mellan de båda betrakelserna.

    Abstract [en]

    This article problematizes the construction of youth as a “driving force” in the contemporary configuration of the European Union as an educational and political space. The study draws empirical nourishment out of documents that are central to the on-going formation of the union, be it White Papers, scripts or memos concerning political arenas such as youth and education policies and theBolognaprocess. Theoretically we draw on insights from post-Foucauldian traditions with a focus on mentalities, subject constructions, technologies and practises operating within the ongoing governmentalization ofEurope. Central questions are “who” and “what” the problematization of youth as political technology is about. Drawing on homologies in the coding of citizen, independent of age, we claim that problematization of youth is directed to all of us. We are all, in the name of youth, expected to constantly ‘adapt’ ourselves in compliance with the aim of theLisbonprocess. Furthermore, as the union itself is coded in a similar way we may even claim that the EU literally speaking appears as a youth project in itself. Thus, the notion youth can be seen as political rationality that becomes a powerful driving force in the ongoing European project.

    Dewey's figures of thought have been inscribed into the Swedish political context since the end of the nineteenth century. His ideas of democracy, community, and communication have been used, directly n the name of Dewey and indirectly in the names of others, when hanging conditions and concerns about the future have put the Future, Society, Citizen, School, and the Child on the stage. From a genealogical point of view it is, furthermore, relevant to say that the indigenous foreigner Dewey even was in the Swedish context before he arrived, as a figure of thought and discursive practice.

    The purpose of this chapter is to problematize contemporary thought about knowledge and knowledge production by comparing discursive practices in the fields of teacher education, public health and criminal justice. Knowledge and knowledge organization cannot be thought of without considering the lotion of governance. Governance takes place in relation to the ways in which we develop and organize knowledge about things and phenomena that are to be governed, and knowledge is not intelligible without an understanding of tiow it is situated in the present as embedded in historical conditions.

    Abstract [en]

    This article provides a genealogical perspective on narratives about the past and the future as governmental discourses in teacher education, public health, and criminal justice in Sweden. Contemporary governmental strategies bring nostalgic memories of the past and visions and fears about the future back to life in the present. The past (history) is a technology of the present to rememorialize who "we" are and have been. The future is a spatial concept, a technology to shape and nurture the "future oriented" subject bent on the pursuit of lifelong learning. The notions of history and future in the construction of the lifelong learner function to link and harmonize the interest of the individual with that of society. As technologies of government these are not new. similar technologies were operating in the discourses about the future, society, and the citizen in the first part of the 20th century. What is new is the particular capabilities and capacities of the individual as an agent of the future and the collective principles in which life is lived.

    Our focusing on the Learning Society and the lifelong learner within a broader historical context of cosmopolitanism is to focus on the changing enablements, enclosures, and internments of the present. This historicity in contemporary analyses of policy and the problem of changes provides an alternative to policy studies hat view the changes in individuality as part of a global example of neo-liberalism.

    This book examincs changes in the politics of knowledge in modern social life. The contributors provide important intervention in contemporary discussions about power, change, and the challenges that were raised in the Enlightenment about knowledge, reason, and the possibilities of humanity. " The studies in the book examine a range of social programs and educational reforms i to understand their implications, assumptions and consecequences. Firstly, the chapters contribute to an international discussion on the historical relationships between social change, political rationalities, and the technologies of the self in a range of social life that included pedagogy. Secondly the book offers new ways of studying and understanding the relation of the welfare state, social and education sciences, and today's configurations of liberal governing. Thirdly, the discussion brings into focus and critiques the i distinctions of social and educational theories that differentiate "context" and programs, divides discoursrse from the "real", separates the subjective and objective and the personal and the public, and disconnects civil society from the state "reason" in modern government.
