Ce que le Ric nous dit de nos aspirations2020Inngår i: Projet (Vanves), ISSN 0033-0884, nr 375, s. 74-79Artikkel i tidsskrift (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [fr]

Contact, variation and change in Angolan Portuguese: the case of existential constructions in Cabinda2020Inngår i: Bulletin of Hispanic studies (Liverpool. 2002), ISSN 1475-3839, E-ISSN 1478-3398, Vol. 97, nr 1, s. 81-103Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The present paper deals with contact-induced change in existential constructions in the variety of Portuguese spoken in Cabinda, Angola. Portuguese is the official language of Angola, and the officially adopted norm is European Standard Portuguese. The focus of the analysis is on the use of the possessive verb ter ‘to have’ in existential constructions, rather than the existential haver ‘to exist’, which is the standard form in Portugal. The analysis is based on data from 40 interviews with 20 male and 20 female high school Cabinda students between 18 and 30 years of age. The aim is to investigate the role of language contact in the emergence of existential sentences with ter, as well as to verify if the use of ter in existential constructions in Cabinda has the same linguistic constraints as in Brazilian Portuguese. The paper also analyzes social factors related to multilingualism in order to discuss how social and linguistic constraints interact in shaping new varieties, such as Cabinda Portuguese. The conclusion is that the use of ter sentences as existentials in Cabinda Portuguese may be an effect resulting from the confluence of two linguistic factors: (i) changes linked with the pro-drop parameter in Portuguese emerging in Angola, and (ii) the transference of a grammatical property from Bantu languages to Portuguese, specifically, the morphological identity of possessive and existential verbs. Moreover, the only registered social influence over the presence of existential ter constructions is the level of use of Bantu languages, a finding that does not rule out that these constructions may initially have been triggered by more general acquisition effects.

‘El amor también es ciego’: Lo sensible en Sangre en el ojo de Lina Meruane2020Inngår i: Bulletin of Hispanic studies (Liverpool. 2002), ISSN 1475-3839, E-ISSN 1478-3398, Vol. 97, nr 4, s. 403-420Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

An incapacity to love, both psychological and social, characterizes the novels and short stories written by the Chilean ‘generation of the children’. This article focuses on the novel Sangre en el ojo (2012) in order to examine how Lina Meruane, one of the most notable voices of this generation, represents this incapacity, and, at the same time, searches for remedies by emphasizing the realm of the sensitive. The article analyses Sangre en el ojo first as a romantic novel. A detailed study of the relationship between love and blindness, on which Meruane constructs her novel, reveals that the author writes against a metaphorization of blindness and a disembodiment of love. As such, the article proposes a reading of Sangre en el ojo as a novel of resistance against current social, economic and sentimental norms and argues that attention to the sensitive can be considered a defining element of the generation that grew up during the dictatorship.

Ferrante Feud: The Italian Reception of the Neapolitan Novels before and after their International Success2020Inngår i: The Italianist, ISSN 0261-4340, E-ISSN 1748-619XArtikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This article analyses the Italian reviews of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels, published in the years 2011–2014. The focus of the study is twofold: first of all, it examines how Ferrante’s works have been assessed in the Italian press, and secondly, it investigates whether the Italian reception of the works has been influenced by their international – and especially American – success. Drawing on previous studies of the evaluation of female writing by Anna Williams, Stefania Lucamante, and Tiziana de Rogatis, the analysis emphasises how Italian critics in a selection of reviews published in newspapers, literary magazines, and collective blogs have approached Ferrante’s writing from the perspective of style, content, genre, and literary contextualisation. The analysis shows that the reception of the first two parts of Ferrante’s quartet has striking similarities to the patronising patterns uncovered by Williams, while the reviews after the international success are more appreciative. These results are also discussed with regard to literary consecration and canonisation by highlighting how Ferrante is addressed in recent books on contemporary Italian literature.

Hacktivism and Alternative Journalism: The Case of the French YouTube Channel Thinkerview2020Inngår i: Encyclopedia of Criminal Activities and the Deep Web, IGI Global, 2020, s. 347-361Kapittel i bok, del av antologi (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The article deals with the creation of a hacktivist channel in France in 2013. The channel pretends to evaluate the information and invite critical guests that are not considered in traditional media. The aim of the article is to study how this channel presents the guests and the topics to see if there is a journalistic innovation. By using the tools of critical discourse analysis and conversational analysis, it is possible to describe the way the guests are presented and connected to the topic promoted by the article. The scenography is also worth being described as the guests have long interviews with a hidden journalist without any montage. In reality, the technique is all the more interesting as it allows the guest to correct his/her reputation. The development of a prior ethos to a discursive ethos is important as the channel can take an advantage of its original position in the sphere of media. Last but not least, the focus on those techniques helps to see if this kind of critical media is a new form of alternative journalism.

Jean Baudrillard, Entretiens2020Inngår i: Lectures, ISSN 2116-5289Artikkel, omtale (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [fr]

    Abstract [en]

This research explores the history of the originally Iberian honorific su merced, currently used by millions of Spanish speakers in the Americas. The analysis is based on 983 occurrences extracted from a corpus of documents written in the Americas between the 16th and the 19th centuries. The paper connects discursive traditions and linguistic change and describes the syntax of su merced. It shows that su merced had two parallel drifts in two well-differentiated communicative practices: the institutional and the interpersonal settings. In the institutional use su merced has been extinguished, while the interpersonal use is linked with current uses.

    Abstract [en]

The literary visibility of Belgian francophone literature in Sweden. On asymmetries in circulation and mediation

This contribution examines the literary visibility of French-language Belgian literature in Sweden from 1998 to 2018 by analyzing three parameters: 1) translation flows, 2) translators and 3) reception flows. By using the methodological framework of the sociology of literature (Heilbron and Sapiro, 2007), the author reflects on different asymmetries that exist between translation flows and reception flows. The study has shown that 1) the translated authors and genres of the French Belgian literature do not always correspond to those who are most mediated in the press, 2) the actors of mediation with high symbolic capital play a dominant role in the literary field of the host country and 3) the reception circuit is revealed as of significant importance in the introduction process of French-language Belgian literature. Through this study, the author observes that it is necessary to reconsider the impact of reception processes for the visibility of literature in general, and especially for the transmission of specific writers or literary genres. The author proposes to acknowledge the autonomy of reception in relation to translation in the literary circulation, and welcomes comparative studies, in order to understand different modalities of global translation and reception circuits.

    Abstract [fr]

    Lieux ludiques: « Les Prisonniers » de Maupassant2020Inngår i: Romanica silesiana, ISSN 2353-9887, Vol. 2, nr 16, s. 82-92Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This study examines the role of topoi in the short story “Les Prisonniers” (The Prisoners) by Maupassant. For historical reasons, the notion of topos is preferred to that of the stereotype, as the latter indicates a manner of conceiving reality from a 20th century perspective (and thus posterior to Maupassant’s authorship). The analysis of the topoi shows that the author brings to play intertextual references linked to the tradition of the folktale and the short story. In foregrounding the story, Maupassant prepares two opposing scenarios. Following the transgressive plot, the initially dominant features of the story are overthrown. The functionality of the narrative elements, entering as units in an elaborated plot, leads to a view of the story primarily as a fictional construction playing with topoi, rather than as an expression of Maupassant’s stereotyped vision of reality.

    Abstract [en]

The present study explored lexical richness in the written production of Swedish university students of Spanish as a foreign language. Two aspects of lexical richness were investigated in the study, i.e., diversity (the ability to use a varied lexical repertoire), and sophistication (the proportion of relatively infrequent words). The written data were elicited by means of two task types, namely a narrative task and a decision-making task. The main aim of the study was investigating the effect of the factors overall proficiency, passive vocabulary knowledge, manipulation of task complexity and task type on lexical richness. Moreover, the study inquired into the predicting power of the first three factors in relation to lexical richness within each task type. Overall proficiency was measured by means of a cloze test, while an estimation of passive vocabulary knowledge was obtained through a word recognition test. The effect of the manipulation of task complexity was examined by using two different versions of each task. The less complex version of the narrative task was based on a cartoon strip with a tight structure and no background events. On the contrary, in the more complex version the cartoon strip depicted a story without a clear sequence and with background events which are relevant to the story plot. Regarding the decision-making task, task complexity was manipulated by changing the number of elements involved. The task itself consisted in writing a message to a friend suggesting a holiday destination. To do so, the participants had to consider the friend´s needs and check them against the possibilities offered by a travel agency. The less complex version included two destinations, while the more complex one contained six. When analysing the effect of manipulating task complexity, structural complexity measures were included with the purpose of investigating if changes in lexical richness go hand in hand with or at the expense of changes in structural complexity. The results of the analysis of these three factors showed different patterns depending on the task type examined. These results suggest that overall proficiency seems to have an effect on lexical richness only in the narrative task, whereas passive vocabulary knowledge would influence lexical richness only in the decision-making task. The manipulation of task complexity apparently affected lexical diversity and structural complexity in the narrative task, on the one hand, and lexical sophistication in the decision-making task, on the other hand. When manipulating task complexity, the relationship between lexical richness and structural complexity turned out to be unclear, as it varied in unpredictable ways depending on the learners´ overall proficiency and passive vocabulary knowledge. The intrinsic complexity inherent to task type, i.e. the different cognitive load that different task types place on the learner, showed the most consistent effect in the study, as it was supported by all the measures of lexical richness and some measures of structural complexity. Finally, the regression model conformed by overall proficiency, passive vocabulary knowledge, and the manipulation of task complexity did not prove to be suitable to predict lexical richness in either of the task types under investigation in the study.

    Abstract [en]

Since the colonial expansion of the Spanish and Portuguese empires, many typologically different languages have come into contact with Spanish and Portuguese in a wide range of geographical, historical and sociocultural settings. This special issue brings together various contributions that focus on such postcolonial contact situations and their linguistic outcomes outside of Europe.1 A variety of different linguistic aspects of these language contact situations are studied empirically in this volume. These include particular case studies of contact-induced change at different language levels, including the syntax and intonation system, (i) in Spanish and Portuguese varieties spoken outside Europe (e.g. in the Americas, Africa, Asia), (ii) in indigenous languages with which these Ibero-Romance languages have come into contact, and (iii) in Spanish- and Portuguese-lexified Creoles. Apart from providing novel empirical data, this thematic volume also offers theoretical insights as several issues surrounding language contact are addressed, such as the formal constraints on borrowability and grammaticalization. The volume comprises, apart from this introduction, which offers a preliminary overview, five articles that reflect contact situations with Spanish and Portuguese in the Americas (Anthony Grant; Melanie Uth; Rodrigo Gutiérrez-Bravo), on Africa (Rita Gonçalves, Anna Jon-And, Juanito Ornelas de Avelar and Laura Álvarez López), and on Asia (Eeva Sippola and Marivic Lesho).

The Recognition of the New Digital Entrepreneurs in France: The Case of the French Tech with the Emergence of the Internet of Things2020Inngår i: Beyond Smart and Connected Governments: Sensors and the Internet of Things in the Public Sector / [ed] J. Ramon Gil-Garcia, Theresa A. Pardo, Mila Gasco-Hernandez, Springer, 2020, s. 165-187Kapittel i bok, del av antologi (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Since 2014, the question of the implementation of the Internet of Things has been crucial in France. Public authorities have created arenas where digital entrepreneurs and politicians can discuss the evolution of the Internet of Things. In January 2017, the National Assembly published a report on the economic and social consequences of the adaptation of the Internet of Things. This chapter analyzes the political discourse that gives legitimacy to the implementation of the Internet of Things in France. The digital entrepreneurs are the privileged actors of this implementation; their social recognition by the French Parliament and the labelling campaigns (French Tech) reinforce the myth of technological innovation. The field of the critical analysis of discourse is mobilized to evaluate the spread of this new myth in France and the analysis of the legitimization of the digital entrepreneurs. This case study reveals how European countries tackle new digital policies in order to control the evolution of the Internet of Things and the field of artificial intelligence.

    Abstract [en]

The acquisition of a heritage language, normally the weaker language of early bilinguals, has been oftentimes defined as incomplete, especially for morphosyntax. As a result, these early bilinguals resemble late bilinguals more than native language speakers, calling into question the role of age of exposure. The effects of syntactic complexity on knowledge of morphosyntactic structures, however, have not been sufficiently considered hitherto. This study investigates age of exposure and syntactic complexity by comparing heritage, second language, and native language speakers on knowledge of Italian accusative clitics in three structures. An oral structural priming task and a speeded grammaticality judgment task find a discrepancy in the level of ultimate attainment heritage speakers reach for syntax and morphology. While their abstract representation of clitic structures approximates that of native language speakers more closely, their morphological knowledge of clitics aligns with second language speakers, suggesting early exposure has tangible effects only on syntactic knowledge. In turn, syntactic complexity affects the representation of clitic structures in a predictable manner, but is inconsequential to explicit knowledge of morphological forms in monolingual and bilingual speakers. Lack of age of exposure effects in the morphological domain are attributed to interface vulnerability.

    Abstract [en]

Plagiarism has been a sensitive issue in higher education in Sweden, as many cases were reported during the last years. It depends partly on resources that are devoted to have efficient detection systems, but it is deeply related to how students are prepared for academic exercises. Many freshmen and sophomores are not familiar with academic requirements and can get used to plagiarizing instead of developing critical thinking. The first step in academic writing is to present guidelines to search relevant sources. The chapter is based on an experimentation on sources made at the University of Stockholm with students enrolled in a course in “Culture and Society in France.” By inviting students to work with second hand sources such as Wikipedia and evaluate their validity, it is possible to analyze their learning strategies. The result of the study shows a paradox: if students acknowledge that Wikipedia sources are inappropriate in an academic context, they confirm that they use these sources to have access to other references. A reflection on the quick access to sources is then necessary.

    Abstract [en]

Vice-presidents in Latin America have often been at the centre of political turbulence. To prevent conflicts within the executive, most Latin American countries have therefore put in place formulae to elect presidents and vice-presidents on a joint electoral ticket. Still, it is common for presidential candidates to pick running mates from other parties in order to construct alliances and appeal to a broader set of voters. But the presence of such 'external' vice-presidents seems to increase the risk of presidential interruption in general and impeachment processes in particular. Accordingly, we argue that the frequently overlooked institution of the vice-president deserves attention as a possible intervening variable that can contribute to the explanation for government crises and their outcomes in Latin America.

At the Biocultural Borderland: The Unfolding of Multispecies Encounters in Latin American Bioart2019Inngår i: 452ºF: revista de teoría de la literatura y literatura comparada, nr 21, s. 22-34Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this article is to analyse two instances of bioart, namely, Allan Jeffs installation Ex+sistencia and Luciana Paoletti's photographs Retratos, from the post-humanist perspective of multispecies encounters. According to Mitchell (2010), bioart engages artistic and scientific procedures bringing about hybrid works that explore a concept or that seek to involve the spectator in biotechnological procedures to promote the debate on the problematic of technology. Based on that theoretical framework I study how bioart experiments with living microorganisms found in human bodies and visual media to explore the co-habiting of humans and bacteria in our own bodies, thus deconstructing dominant ideas on human nature and the human body.

    Abstract [fr]

    Abstract [en]

This article considers the Francophone literary canon based on a transnational reception study. It focuses on the circulation of French language literature within the Swedish academic system during the last thirty years. A longitudinal empirical study of bachelor and doctoral dissertations in French between 1986 and 2016 allows the author to examine the dynamics of canon formation and renewal, as well as the role of universities in this process, particularly in regard to the creation of a canon of Francophone literary works. In response to recent scholarly anthologies which have debated the Francophone canon, this study is able to confirm the existence of Francophone classics. Finally, it is argued that further reception studies focusing on areas outwith the Francophone literary system will be of prime importance if the question of the Francophone canon is to be fully assessed beyond the immediate context of the Hexagone.

Becoming Monolingual: The Impact of Language Ideologies on the Loss of Multilingualism on São Tomé Island2019Inngår i: Languages, E-ISSN 2226-471X, Vol. 4, nr 3, artikkel-id 50Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This article discusses the loss of the creole languages on São Tomé Island and the societal move from multilingualism to monolingualism in Portuguese. It argues that recognizing the ideologies attached to these languages is key in understanding the language shift, but also the processes leading toward monolingualism. This qualitative study is based on three main theories: Language as social practice, language ideology, and monoglot standardization. Data comes from ethnographic fieldwork and sociolinguistic interviews with 56 speakers from the capital of São Tomé and Príncipe. I argue that the existence of multilingualism on São Tomé Island is not valued at a societal level because of the pejorative ideologies that have been held about the creole languages since colonial times. Also, the use of the creole languages stood as a problem for the creation of a unified Santomean nation, as the different racial groups on the islands had their own creole. Results show how ideologies about the Portuguese language and its association with national unity, modernity, and European-ness favored its expansion on São Tomé Island and a move toward monolingualism.

    Abstract [es]

    Abstract [en]

This thesis deals with the development of idiomaticity in French as a second language (L2). Idiomaticity in this context refers to knowledge and use of multiword expressions (MWEs), such as for example c'est ça and en fait. Developing idiomaticity is an important yet challenging aspect of L2 learning, and requires substantial exposure to the target language (TL). This makes the study abroad learning context ideal. However, research shows that learners vary considerably with respect to their linguistic development during their stay abroad. The aim of this thesis is to investigate what factors promote the development of idiomaticity in L2 French during a semester abroad. The thesis comprises three studies which are informed by usage-based approaches to language learning and individual difference research, and which include a total of 43 participants. Study I quantitatively investigates the role of quantity of TL contact for the learning of MWEs used in informal conversations. The results show that quantity of TL contact during the stay abroad did not predict the development of MWE knowledge. Study II qualitatively explores what kind of TL contact and what psychological orientation (a constellation of psychological factors) might promote MWE learning by focusing on contrasting cases of learners from Study I. The findings suggest that a relatively varied contact with the TL in combination with a favorable psychological orientation promoted MWE learning, including a self-reported tendency to notice language forms, a strong L2 motivation, a sense of self-efficacy and self-regulatory capabilities. Study III explores the role of social networks for the development of idiomaticity in spoken L2 French. It is found that the learner's repertoire of MWEs was promoted by a social network including several relationships sustained in the TL. Overall, the findings suggest that a relatively varied TL contact in combination with a favorable psychological orientation and/or a social network including TL speakers promote the development of L2 idiomaticity during the semester abroad. In other words, mere exposure to the TL does not seem to be enough to develop idiomaticity. This thesis contributes to SA research on L2 learning and can hopefully be of use to future SA participants who want to develop their knowledge and use of MWEs which are key to successful communication in an L2.

    Abstract [fr]

    Abstract [en]

This article examines representations and issues of the "irrational" in recent novels by contemporary women writers in French (Claire Castillon, Carole Martinez and Marie NDiaye). It examines how the irrational imaginary specific to these works, which is built up through the sensitivity of female characters, raises issues that concern not only the affective construction of the protagonists but also the social identification, the relations of human-beings and the hierarchy of powers. Specific implications of the irrational regarding gendered hierarchy and affecting women in particular are discussed. The analysis shows how the irrational is constructed as the transformation of a traumatic social experience of the protagonists.

    Abstract [en]

Why are we talking about coloniality in postcolonial times? And what does language have to do with it? In addressing these two broad questions, this thesis sets out to provide empirically well-grounded reflections focusing: First, on how young Mozambicans’ linguistic repertoires and discursive practices relate to their sense of being in the world. And second, on how their perceptions resonate with recent sociolinguistic debates about the different roles language and ideologies play in constructing and reproducing conditions of contemporary coloniality. The role of postcolonial Portuguese is particularly highlighted. The introduction provides a critical, decolonial and epistemic reflexion that brings together four seemingly disparate studies. Moreover, it offers an invitation to critically reflect on discourses, ideologies and valuations that are carried in and on our individual and collective historical bodies and minds and are reproduced through different manifestations of what I call ‘discursive re(b)orderings’. Study I, explores how Portuguese spoken in Maputo has changed after independence and underpins the inquiry into the ‘construct’ of linguistic boundaries and its relation to ideas of language purity and how these ideologically laden notions impact knowledge production and perceived and lived mobilities in the ‘postcolony’. Study II, displays ‘languaging’ practices of young Mozambicans and their strategic orientations in their social-spatial deployment of linguistic resources, and explores ‘translanguaging’ as discursive space production. Study III, brings Frantz Fanon into the study of sociolinguistics of subjectivity and explores the reflexes of the ‘other’ in the constitution of the self of young Mozambicans, suggesting that intersubjectivity holds the promise of disentangling Fanon´s notion of ‘sociogenese’. Study IV brings Pierre Bourdieu´s Distinction (1984) into the ‘postcolony’ by emulating his methodology through multilevel big picture data, combining quantitative and qualitative data and analyses with approaches inspired by ethnography to look at ‘positions and dispositions’ of young Mozambicans across fields and markets. Theoretically, the thesis brings Bourdieu and Fanon together, and shows how nexus concepts, intersubjectivity and the historical bodies and minds represent promising avenues to the understanding of language in coloniality. Two nexus concepts, the habitus and the sociogenese, are adopted and complement each other. By mixing methodologies, the studies combined, manage to capture the complexities in the multi-layered and often subtle ways discursive bordering constructs and reproduces contemporary coloniality. Empirically, taken together, the four studies show how ideologies, the ‘constructs’ surrounding language and the symbolic value of Portuguese are taken up in language and discourses and in speakers’ strategic deployment of linguistic resources across fields and marketplaces in the ‘postcolony’. Moreover, it shows how all forms of capital: epistemic, economic, educational, linguistic and symbolic are reconfigured and revaluated. Nevertheless, mobility is contained, and socioeconomic inequalities are mirrored in sociolinguistic inequalities and even in material urban space to the effect of perpetuating conditions of contemporary coloniality.

El continentalismo Latinoamericano: nacionalismo de quinta frontera2019Inngår i: Alberto Methol Ferré: Reflexiones sobre geopolítica y la región / [ed] Gerardo Caetano, Diego Hernández Nilson, Montevideo, Uruguay: Planeta de Libros , 2019, s. 45-66Kapittel i bok, del av antologi (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [es]

    Abstract [fr]

    Abstract [en]

Accuracy in use of inflection is a defining feature of native and non-native academic writing. In EAP contexts, non-native texts are dominated by errors in use of tense and agreement, despite accuracy being an important element of text complexity and EAP teaching and assessment. An open question is to what degree the absence of inflection in the EAP learner's L1 resembling English tense and agreement is associated with inaccuracy. This study examined verb form errors in the EAP writing of L1 Chinese learners and assessed the degree to which errors stem from the absence of similar inflection in the L1. The use of three forms that are especially important in native and non-native academic writing, tense/agreement, passives, and modals, was analysed. These forms were especially relevant due to the fact that only modals and passives have cognates in English. Analyses show errors were most frequently omission and misuse. Errors with tense/agreement outnumbered both passives and modals, suggesting the former are especially difficult to master as cognate forms are absent in the L1. Furthermore, similar rates of misuse and omission were found across passives and modals, suggesting these forms are attainable. Implications for teacher-training, materials development, and error-correction are discussed.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Keeping up appearances: Impression management in native and non-native speakers of four languages2019Inngår i: Intercultural Pragmatics, ISSN 1612-295X, E-ISSN 1613-365X, Vol. 16, nr 1, s. 1-25Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Seven groups with ten people in each participated in a simulated activity in which they played the part of employees asking their boss for two days of leave. Four groups were made up of native speakers of British English, Metropolitan French, Chilean Spanish, and Swedish, respectively; the remaining three groups being non-native speakers of British English, Metropolitan French, and Chilean Spanish, with Swedish as their L1, who were long-time residents of their respective host countries. The aim of the study was to investigate the patterns of impression management that emerged in the different participant groups. Two dimensions of comparison were in focus: one regarding intercultural differences between the native speaker groups, and the other concerning non-native speakers' alignment with local patterns of behavior. The analysis shows little variation among the three groups with regard to profession-oriented strategies, whereas divergences related to affective variables were considerably greater. The non-native speakers exhibited a generally high degree of alignment to local patterns in all three national contexts, although lower degrees of alignment appeared with regard to variables specifically reflecting common Swedish national self-images.
