    Abstract [en]

Durant the last decenniums war and conflicts between nations have decreased substantially. Conflicts and civil wars within nations have instead increased, and with those the huge amount of internal displaced persons or internal refugees. A big proportion of the combatants in these wars are men, while women constitute the majority of survivors becoming in turn the main carers and bearers of the poverty and devastation that wars and internal conflicts generate. This paper aims to introduce a discussion on what this “new world” looks like pertaining this feminization of migration. The core question is to elucidate what challenges emerge at local places in this era of global female displacement for paraphrasing “The Age of migration” advanced by Castles and Miller (2003, Palgrave). The Age of female displacement emerges in a interconnected world that make international migration and its challenges more visible. Nevertheless, a problem is that as internationalization is at the core of the debate it hides the realities related to the local societies directly affected by the conflicts. Although transnational migrants achieve attention in the processes of discrimination, segregation and racism in more urbanised countries, the same attention to internal displaced persons become uncovered. This particularities on the debate on international migration generate a set of dichotomies like those along lines of regional and international migrants, political and economic migrants, rural and urban destinations, rich and poor nations, and so for. As such these dichotomies are at the core of a methodological nationalism that needs to be contested in order to see the extended complexity attached to migratory processes. This task can be conducted in two directions. At the first places by advancing a discussion on the pros and cons of cosmopolite methodologies that try to overcome nationalism. At the second place by applying an intersectionality approach to the different phenomena involved in the migratory process.

The paper will lay ground for an interconnection of experiences related to feminized displacement and segregation at two local places that methodological nationalisms may well try to keep apart from each other. The first place is located in Colombia, and the other in Sweden. The paper try to introduce an analysis about how people are working with gendered planning in these multicultural milieus that have emerged from the intensive resettlement of displaced persons. The attempt can inform on complementary perspectives on gender mainstreaming that inform both societies on how to deal with the feminization of migration, discrimination and segregation.

Uribe y Chacao: De la “Cultura Ciudadana” a la “Seguridad democrática” contra la Sala de Batalla Socialista Victoria Popular?2011Other (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [es]

Adolescents with Turkish background in Norway and Sweden.: A comparative study of their psychological adaptation2004In: Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, ISSN 0036-5564, E-ISSN 1467-9450, Vol. 45, no 1, p. 15-25Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Virta, E., Sam, D. L. & Westin, C. (2004). Adolescents with Turkish background in Norway and Sweden: A comparative study of their psychological adaptation. Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, 45, 15–25. Using a questionnaire survey, this study compared psychological adaptation (self-esteem, life satisfaction, and mental health problems) of Turkish adolescents in Norway and Sweden, and examined to what extent ethnic and majority identities, acculturation strategies, and perceived discrimination accounted for adaptation among Turkish adolescents. The samples consisted of 407 Turks (111 in Norway and 296 in Sweden) with a mean age of 15.2 years and 433 host adolescents (207 in Norway, 226 in Sweden) with a mean age of 15.6 years. Turks in Norway reported poorer psychological adaptation than Turks in Sweden. Predictors of good adaptation were Turkish identity and integration, whereas poor adaptation was related to marginalization and perceived discrimination. The results indicated that the poorer adaptation of Turks in Norway compared to that of Turks in Sweden could be due to lower degree of Turkish identity and higher degree of perceived discrimination.
