SWE-2011-38Production and consumption of seafood - opportunities and limitations of sustainability indicators and eco-labelling schemes
Abstract [sv]
The objectives of this interdisciplinary project are to evaluate assessment tools and certification schemes in the context of improving the sustainability of aquaculture operations. The project uses multiple methods (literature synthesis/meta-analyses and interviews) and Vietnam as a case to study (i) match/mis-match between sustainability assessment tools and environmental as well as social concerns of aquaculture, (ii) certification schemes for shrimp aquaculture, primarily with regard to deforestation and replantation of mangroves, and (iii) the role of consumers knowledge and perceptions in promoting sustainable aquaculture practices. An extensive network of partners and capacity building initiatives will facilitate the dissemination of research findings and management recommendations to a variety of stakeholders in developing countries.
