Title [sv]
Snabb jontransport i ultra-tunna polymerelektrolyter
Title [en]
Fast ionic transport in ultra-thin polymer electrolytes
Abstract [sv]
Energy storage solutions such as Li-ion batteries have an increasing role to play in the future energy system, not least for vehicles, which will have a tremendous impact on the use of fossil fuels. However, today´s Li-battery chemistries are unsafe due to side-reactions between the electrolytes and the electrode materials, but could be improved by the use of solid polymer electrolytes which are more chemically inert. Earlier skepticism against polymer electrolytes due to their low intrinsic ionic conductivity is for many of these applications less valid, since they can well be used at elevated temperatures, and could be synthesized in thinner layers. This application concerns exploring ultra-thin polymer electrolytes for Li-ion batteries at elevated temperatures and investigating them in Li-battery prototypes. Furthermore, Molecular Dynamics simulations will provide vital insight on the fundamental structure-property relationships regarding ion transport in polymers, as well as the intercalation processes at the decisive electrode/electrolyte interface. By combining approaches of (a) utilizing monomers with surfactant properties, (b) different cross-linking strategies for the materials and (c) utlizing polymeric systems with bipolar properties, mechanically and chemically robust yet flexible electrolytes possessing comparatively fast ion transport could be achieved.
