Title [sv]
Utforskning av människans djupa rötter i förhistoriska och moderna genom från södra central-Afrika
Title [en]
Exploring deep human roots in south-central African ancient and modern genomes
Abstract [en]
The potential for understanding human evolutionary history has taken great leaps in the last few decades with the rapid development in molecular genetics and population genetic theory. However, our knowledge about genetic variation in prehistoric humans as well as in remote indigenous groups, and the information about our past that is hidden in that genetic variation, is still very limited, which is especially true for Africa. With the recent developments in sequencing and ancient DNA technology, we now have a unique opportunity to unveil human evolutionary history in Africa.I will infer evolutionary history of modern humans in south-central Africa – an area omitted from investigations of human past. I will use a multidisciplinary approach of ancient DNA, population genomics, and computational biology, and investigate empirical data from 19 prehistoric human remains from south-central Africa (Zambia), and determine the genomic variation in 80 individuals from three remaining indigenous groups of the same region.
