Title [sv]
Funktionella material för framtida Li-S batterier med högt energiinnehåll
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
This proposal targets novel strategies for realisation of the Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) battery system, which is of high importance for energy storage in the future energy system due to its advantages of high energy density and potentially lower cost. Device implementations are envisioned in the entire range of portable electronic, grid storage and Electric vehicles, and for numerous niche applications. The strategy proposed comprises the utilisation of functional materials, not least novel electrode binders, for cost-effective cell stabilisation, prolonged battery lifetime and increased energy density, as well as implementation of novel electroanalytical tools for an in-depth understanding of the complex Chemistry associated with the Li-S cells. In fact, understanding the reaction processes of lithiated polysulfides will be of highimportance for tailoring the Li-S cell chemistry to meet the market demands in terms of energy density and cycle life. Therefore, the polysulfide interactions with the polymer binders will be studied at the atomic level using spectroscopic techniques, while tools for electrochemical analysis will be developed for analysis of electrode stability and battery stateof-health. Novel high-capacity sulfur electrodes will be developed, as will electrolytes for improved anode stability and efficiency. Together, this will bring the scientific area clearly beyond the current state-of-the-art, and deliver Li-S batteries with significantly improved performance.
