Représentante emblématique de la Percée moderne scandinave, l’écrivaine suédoise Victoria Benedictsson problématise le rôle sociétal de la femme dans les années 1880. L’aporie du rôle de la femme mariée, dans le roman L’Argent (1885), est suivie par l’esquisse d’une égalité évolutive entre les sexes dans Madame Marianne (1887) pour ensuite être masquée dans L’Ensorcelée, œuvre inachevée, par des jeux intertextuels. L’étude montre que l’œuvre de Benedictsson constitue un repère important sur le plan national et international par ses prises de positions originales par rapport au débat féministe alors en vogue, intimement lié à la thématique naturaliste.

As an emblematic representative of the Scandinavian Modern Breakthrough, Swedish writer Victoria Benedictsson problematizes the societal role of women in the 1880s. The aporia of the role of the married woman in the novel L'Argent (1885) is followed by the outline of an evolving equality between the sexes in Madame Marianne (1887) and then masked by intertextual play in the unfinished work L'Ensorcelée. The study shows that Benedictsson's work remains an important national and international landmark due to the original positions it takes in relation to the contemporary and widespread feminist debate, closely linked to themes in naturalistic literature.
