This thesis consists of a three-part journalistic production concerning the 2017 Sámi parliamentary election, and a theoretical section where methodological and ethical issues are discussed. Using public data gathered through FOI requests, the first two parts investigate the changing demographics of the Sámi electorate and the political candidates in the Sámi parliamentary election. A third part deals with an issue central to Sámi politics: the exploitation of natural resources in northern Sweden, and its’ consequences for Sámi reindeer herders. Through geospatial analysis, this sub-project investigates where mining projects and wind power plants intersect with geographical areas vital for reindeer husbandry.
