Abstract [en]

This is a bachelors project at 15 credits with the title “Evaluation of the first bicycle lane in Kathmandu Valley – inhabitants’ preferences vs. local planners’ perspectives”. It is written year 2020 by Johanna Hagberg and supervised by Marianne Abramsson.

The purpose with this project was to discover what residents experience as positive respectively fearful factors associated with bicycle usage in Kathmandu Valley and to compare this with the local planners’ perspective about the development of a bicycle friendly environment. A questionnaire was conducted to collect residents’ preferences and an interview was preformed to collect information regarding the local planners’ perspective. The theoretical frame was communicative planning theory which accounts for having a dialogue among residents’ and local planners. The results contribute with knowledge in how campaigns could be made more effective and what difficulties there is with inaugurating shared bicycle lanes with priority for bicycles but not excluding other vehicles.
